More ways...

... than one.

The drive to my analyst’s spot is through pleasant scenery. Occasionally, when the air is clear, there is a good view of the Pyrenees. I always feel the drive there is part of the process. A pleasant interlude in a life of mental strife. One day I was putting petrol in the car and it came to the same amount I pay for a session. I found myself thinking “I wonder how far a session gets me?”

How interesting! I understand including the journey into the personal process of analysis as my train travel is my buffer zone before my weekly session. Often, that journey and its experiences come into the analytic room, as I discuss them. Did you mention your linkage of petrol, fuel, travel, getting somewhere and analysis?

Yes, we had a good laugh about it. I find vehicles and travel come up a lot in writing about the process and in dreams. Also the idea of map making...
And thanks for "buffer zone" - I had the French word "sas" in mind but couldn't find a suitable English equivalent...
